I have a sweet tooth and never hesitated to indulge in all things that are sweet and decadent. But, with age came the need to be/stay healthy, so I am always looking for ways to satisfy my sweet tooth and still be good.
I came across this viral recipe and decided to try it. I tweaked it a bit to suit my taste, and I must say, I love how it turned out.
You will need:
3 over-ripe Bananas (not half ripe or with the skin still green).
8 tbsps Almond Butter.
5 tbsps Cacao Powder (adding more gives the brownies a bitter taste)
Sea Salt for garnish (optional).
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Line an 8 x 8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, or you can grease the pan.
Peel and mash bananas in a bowl.
Add the almond butter and mix well.
Mix in the cacao powder until fully combined with no lumps.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 20-25 minutes. The surface should be dry, and a tooth pick when inserted, should have no sticky batter when removed.
Remove the brownies from the pan and let cool completely before cutting.
Garnish with a sprinkle of sea salt (optional).
Tips:
You can puree the bananas in a blender to make it smooth, but I like the bananas a bit chunky, adds a nice texture to the brownies.
You can also use unsweetened cocoa powder instead of cacoa, but I think cacoa is more flavourful.
Add about 3 tbsps Honey for extra sweetness, but depending on the ripeness of the bananas, you may not need it.
You can modify this recipe to suit your taste as I did.
