DIY Body Scrub using 2 ingredients

The Canadian winter leaves my skin dry and dull. But with exfoliation and moisturizing, I won that battle. Take that winter!

Just as you exfoliate your face, you should also exfoliate your body. Over time, dead skin can accumulate on the surface of the skin, causing it to look dull and unhealthy. A body scrub will remove dead skin and increase blood circulation to reveal healthy, glowing, moisturized, and youthful looking skin.

You can exfoliate your body using a body brush (that’s a whole new post that’s coming soon) or with a body scrub. There are many body scrubs on the market. While these are readily available, they may contain chemicals and can be expensive. So, why not make your own at home using items that you probably already have in your kitchen?

Here is how I make my body scrub:

6 tbsp Brown Sugar – makes enough for two uses

Coconut oil (enough to form a paste)

Brown sugar is softer than regular sugars. However, it is also strong enough to scrub away dead skin cells and make way for healthier, glowing skin.

It serves as a natural moisturizer which keeps the skin soft and at the same time hydrated. It draws moisture from the environment and transfers it to the skin.

And if you don’t already know the benefits of coconut oil, Coconut oil is comprised of a unique combination of natural fats, which makes it useful in treating the skin.

All you do is:

Mix the coconut oil with the sugar until it forms a paste and voila you’re done! Yes, it’s that easy! Store in a sealed container in the fridge for a maximum of 5 days.

To use:

It’s better to use this in the shower. Wet your body as this will make the scrub easier to apply.

Using your finger tips, apply the scrub in a circular motion to your entire body. DO NOT apply to your private areas or internally.

Follow with your normal shower routine and a body moisturizer/ oil.

Note: if the coconut oil is in a solid form then just heat for a few seconds in the microwave, this will liquify it. Be careful when doing this and DO NOT heat for more than a few seconds as oil is flammable.
